The Emotive Power of BLUE

The color Blue has always held a quiet intensity.

A colour that feels infinite, yet quietly evokes the void.

Across history, it has remained both rare and deeply symbolic. It carried stories of trade, devotion, royalty, and even conflict.

Through textured canvases and contemporary reinterpretations of Indian art traditions, I invite you to see what blue reveals through silence, depth, and light.

Scroll down to discover how this timeless color reveals itself in a uniquely Indian contemporary style.

A Colour Shaped by Centuries

True Ultramarine was once born only from Lapis Lazuli, a gemstone as precious as gold.

Artists ground lapis lazuli to create ultramarine, a colour once reserved for royalty and even claimed it as royal blue.

A hue of privilege, reverence, and timeless desire.

Across centuries, blue has journeyed from rarity to emotion. from precious mineral to everyday ink.

Blue travelled through cultures, carrying the weight of value, emotion, and identity, and continues to evolve through contemporary art today.

Blue as Feeling, Not Form

Ten Canvases, One Colour, Infinite Feelings !

Through textured canvases, I study how light, depth, and texture change the emotional experience of a single hue. Each one a different conversation with a colour that refuses to be Just one thing.

Some surfaces remain plain and quiet, holding a glossy stillness.
Others move with ripples, waves, spirals, or radiating outward, each revealing a different mood of blue.

I use this intense clolour across these textures, to transform with every shift of light, suggest movement, and reveal the many emotions hidden within a single hue.

I invite you to see what blue reveals through silence, depth, and light.

BLUE: Indian Art Expressions

Derived from natural indigo, blue in India holds both earthly grounding and quiet divinity. It mirrors the vastness of the sky, the depth of water, and the stillness of the infinite.

In Indian craft and culture, blue is more than a colour, it is a presence.

Jaipur Blue Pottery

A Spark for This Series.
Jaipur’s Blue Pottery, with its vibrant glaze, shows how blue can define an entire artwork .

Inspired by this tradition,  I bring forward a colour that has long belonged to Traditional Indian craft into a contemporary context with Tree of Life.

Tree of life - Series
Kalpavriksha Reimagined

The Tree of Life, or The wish fulfilling Tree, symbolizes growth, prosperity, and our connection with nature. I reimagine this motif through the Indian Artforms Madhubani, Kalamkari, and Gond, letting blue become the thread that unites these forms.

Beneath each tree sit two animals. One engaging with life, the other observing in stillness. They reflect the duality of human experience.

Participation and Presence, Doing and Being, Movement and Awareness.

The composition celebrates the interconnectedness of nature, with one peacock engaging playfully with the tree while the other stands as a quiet observer, reflecting balance between action and stillness.
